Walking Safaris in North Luangwa National Park, Zambia

Rod and Guz

Kitchen gardenKutandala is owned and operated by Rod and Maelisa (Guz) Tether.

Rod and Guz are based permanently at Kutandala with Guz overseeing the camp while Rod does all the guiding. Both Rod and Guz were raised in Zambia.

Guz is a Ballymaloe trained chef and her cooking already has an enviable reputation both in Europe, where for or several years she has run ski chalets in the French and Swiss Alps, and in Zambia where she invariably produces faultless cuisine - despite the nearest supermarket being over seven hours drive away! She is passionate about food. From a kitchen open to the African skies, Guz serves up sumptuous, elegant meals, with fresh bread, salads, petits fours and perfect coffee.

Rod started guiding in 1989 when at 18 he became the youngest qualified walking guide in Zambia. Born in Uganda, he moved with his family to Zambia when aged three. An avid all round naturalist, he has worked "off seasons" in Nepal, France, Switzerland and travelled extensively through Southern and Eastern Africa, Europe and South America.

"Rod's a super guide who spent several years running mobile trips into the North Park... he is an expert on the area ....
Guz's speciality is conjuring faultless cuisine from minute grass huts and open fires" - Chris McIntyre, Bradt Guide to Zambia
